What a great weekend for hiking. On Saturday, I was able to hike 7.5 miles in our local watershed. It was tough but not difficult. I had 1,200 feet of elevation gain. I was fortunate enough to see the sunrise and the moon set all in the same hike. The advantages of starting really early. I finished the day with 25,000 steps after a quick shopping trip to Costoc. Why not?

The numbers. I started with a blood sugar of 135. Turn off my insulin pump and my BS remained constant for the three hour hike. It was the perfect day for a hike with a constant BS.

The on Sunday, I did another 7.5 mile hike on a flat sandy trail. There was no real elevation gain, but it was 100 degrees out. Maybe starting the hike at 1:00 pm was not the best idea decision, but I am not known for great decision making. It was so hot! How hot was it? My Dexcom sensor sweated off my body. Then to top it all off, I push past the 30,000 steps on that day.
I typically start a hike with my BS sugar between 130-160. Then I turn off my pump and it really remains constant for 90% of the hike. This seems to work for me.
My BS remain constant for the three-hour hike. However, at the halfway through, I ate a sandwich, and I didn't turn on my pump and my BS shot up to 220. I managed this when my alarm went off.
It was nice doing two hikes on back-to-back days. My forever pace is 2.5 miles hour. I can do this pace which is not fast, but I can do it all day with a pack.
Thanks and Pack Lightly
Just Joe
