The Tour du Mont Blanc is a 105 mile (170 km) trekking trail through France, Italy and Switzerland. This is one of trips that everyone wants to take in their life. The tour takes you across France, Italy, and Switzerland. The hike averages 3,000 feet of elevation gain on each of the 10 days. So I will find the steepest places to hike in the Mid Atlantic Region which really doesn't compare.
This link gives you a good overview of the hike.
What I have to work with. I am a 60-year kid at heart. Fairly good health if being 220 pounds is really good health. My cardiologist would disagree with that. I am a Type1 diabetic that is in good control.
My fitness level is good but not great. I walk a lot and recently in the last 4 years rediscovered my joy of hiking. Four hours on the trail helps to reset the whole week. Luckly my wife realizes this and she lets me go. I am just learning what I like on the trail with equipment and company. Throughout the posts, I will be exploring different facets of training, hiking, equipment, and all the while being a Type1.
I am part of a group of 8 that will be taking our first steps on the TMB in August 2024. The party is made up of a couple who did the Camino with me in 2022 or I did it with them, my brother, and 4 others that I don't know. There are four that are older than me, two are my age, and two that are in their 30's. So I am not the oldest and not the youngest. August 2024 is not that far away and it only gives me just 9 months to get ready.
I have just started my training. Join me and help me so I can enjoy this adventure without it killing me. This blog is to help me keep on track and maybe it will help or inspire you along the way.
Thanks and Pack Lightly
